Apprenticeship can be defined as a
scheme in which a set of people get trained as they work. In short words, it is
the job training sometimes with a classroom type studying. Apprenticeship is
similar to an internship but for a longer period. It is common in many
countries, especially in India.
The trainees or apprentices in India are trained by
experts. Usually, the apprentice training is given to technical staffsin
different fields like Mechanical, electrical, aviation, and so on. It is generally
for 1 year but apprenticeship in India lasts longer than that. Usually, they
are offered training at their place of work. The training prolongs until the apprentice or the worker becomes expert
in the field. Basically, the workers get the knowledge about what they are
going to do in the workshop or their place of work, sitting in the classroom. Apprenticeship
training is like a win-win situation. Trainees can meet a lot of people who can
help them in getting jobs in future, they also get a hands-on experience on the machines that they may be handling.
From the employer’s view, they don’t have to pay much to the employees and the
satisfaction for sending to the world graduates with work experience.
Apprenticeship and India:
The government of India
supports apprenticeship in India at
a very good level. There is a scheme called the National
Apprentice Training Scheme. It is for degree and diploma holders. This is
governed by an act called the National
Apprentice act. According to this, the training lasts for 365 days. The
apprentices are paid both by the government and the employer. They pay 50%
each. Once the training is done, they get a proficiency certificate. Using this
certificate, the trainee can register himself at employment exchange all over
India and this will be considered as a valid employment experience.
Apprenticeship in India is supported and encouraged by the government. They
make sure the trainees do not feel that they have wasted the time. There is
also one called National Employability Enhancement Mission. It lasts for 3 to
36 months. Apprenticeship training
has helped a lot of people learn, earn and also get a decent job.
Apprenticeship vacancies and jobs:
You can find the vacancies for the required job on many websites online. It depends on the
company that provides the apprentice. The company that has apprenticeship vacancy will post it on their website or on apprenticeship job sites. The employee
who wants to take up apprenticeship can just apply online. It asks for basic
details like name, age, etc. You can choose the company or apprenticeship in
the field you are interested in. There are vacancies in Indian railway, DRDO, etc.
The number of vacancies will also be put up on
the website. Indian Railways comes with a lot of vacancies every year. There a
lot of vacancies for 10th and 12th pass also. Not just
government. Even private companies offer an apprenticeship.
The certificate they get can help them get a job in near future. They are
usually employed where they take their training.
The government of India has been taking superb efforts to encourage
youngsters to take up an apprenticeship
